Embora a sigla BESS seja habitualmente utilizada para designar um contentor cheio de m\u00f3dulos de armazenamento, a realidade \u00e9 que um BESS envolve uma infraestrutura muito mais complexa.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">De um ponto de vista t\u00e9cnico, um BESS \u00e9 composto pelas baterias, pelo sistema de gest\u00e3o da bateria ou <em>Battery Management System<\/em> (BMS), o sistema de convers\u00e3o de pot\u00eancia (<em>Power Conversion System<\/em> ou PCS), o sistema de gest\u00e3o de energia (<em>Energy Management System<\/em> ou EMS), transformadores, prote\u00e7\u00f5es el\u00e9tricas, sistemas de refrigera\u00e7\u00e3o, sistemas de combate a inc\u00eandios e plataformas de supervis\u00e3o capazes de monitorizar em tempo real o funcionamento de toda a instala\u00e7\u00e3o. Esta integra\u00e7\u00e3o transforma o BESS num ativo energ\u00e9tico capaz de responder automaticamente \u00e0s necessidades da rede, otimizando os ciclos de carga e descarga, protegendo a vida \u00fatil da bateria e maximizando o rendimento da instala\u00e7\u00e3o ao longo de todo o seu funcionamento.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Por este motivo, no \u00e2mbito profissional, n\u00e3o \u00e9 correto utilizar os termos BESS e \u00abbateria\u00bb como sin\u00f3nimos. A bateria constitui apenas um dos componentes do sistema, enquanto o BESS engloba todos os elementos necess\u00e1rios para armazenar, gerir e fornecer energia de forma segura e eficiente.<\/p><h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Como funciona um BESS?<\/h2><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">O funcionamento de um BESS baseia-se num princ\u00edpio relativamente simples: armazenar eletricidade quando h\u00e1 disponibilidade de energia e fornec\u00ea-la quando as condi\u00e7\u00f5es t\u00e9cnicas ou econ\u00f3micas tornam aconselh\u00e1vel a sua utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o. No entanto, por tr\u00e1s deste processo existe uma gest\u00e3o extremamente sofisticada que combina eletr\u00f3nica de pot\u00eancia, algoritmos de controlo e sistemas de monitoriza\u00e7\u00e3o avan\u00e7ados.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Durante o processo de carregamento, o BESS recebe eletricidade proveniente de uma central fotovoltaica, de um parque e\u00f3lico, de uma central de produ\u00e7\u00e3o convencional ou diretamente da rede el\u00e9trica. Com esta informa\u00e7\u00e3o, o BESS determina quando deve carregar, quando deve descarregar e que pot\u00eancia deve fornecer em cada momento para maximizar a efici\u00eancia da instala\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gra\u00e7as a este n\u00edvel de automatiza\u00e7\u00e3o, um BESS consegue responder em mil\u00e9simos de segundo a altera\u00e7\u00f5es na rede el\u00e9trica, prestando servi\u00e7os de regula\u00e7\u00e3o de frequ\u00eancia, apoio \u00e0 tens\u00e3o e outras fun\u00e7\u00f5es que contribuem para melhorar a estabilidade do sistema el\u00e9trico.<\/p><h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Principais componentes de um BESS<\/h2><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Embora cada fabricante desenvolva solu\u00e7\u00f5es com arquiteturas pr\u00f3prias, a maioria dos sistemas BESS partilha uma estrutura baseada em v\u00e1rios componentes que funcionam de forma integrada para garantir um armazenamento de energia seguro, eficiente e fi\u00e1vel.<\/p><ul data-spread=\"true\"><li><strong>Batteries:<\/strong> Constituem o n\u00facleo do BESS e s\u00e3o respons\u00e1veis pelo armazenamento de energia el\u00e9trica atrav\u00e9s de processos eletroqu\u00edmicos revers\u00edveis. Ao longo da \u00faltima d\u00e9cada, a ind\u00fastria evoluiu rapidamente no sentido de solu\u00e7\u00f5es com maior densidade energ\u00e9tica, maior seguran\u00e7a e uma vida \u00fatil mais prolongada, permitindo que o armazenamento de energia se torne cada vez mais competitivo face a outras alternativas.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A tecnologia predominante nos projetos de BESS \u00e9 atualmente a bateria de i\u00f5es de l\u00edtio, devido \u00e0 sua elevada efici\u00eancia, r\u00e1pida capacidade de resposta e excelente rela\u00e7\u00e3o entre capacidade de armazenamento, peso e espa\u00e7o ocupado. Dentro desta fam\u00edlia, destacam-se especialmente as composi\u00e7\u00f5es qu\u00edmicas LFP (<em>Lithium Iron Phosphate<\/em>) e NMC (<em>Nickel Manganese Cobalt<\/em>), utilizadas em fun\u00e7\u00e3o dos requisitos espec\u00edficos de cada projeto. As baterias LFP t\u00eam vindo a ganhar destaque nos \u00faltimos anos gra\u00e7as \u00e0 sua maior estabilidade t\u00e9rmica, elevada seguran\u00e7a operacional e longa vida \u00fatil, caracter\u00edsticas especialmente valorizadas em instala\u00e7\u00f5es de armazenamento estacion\u00e1rio.
