ENERGYEAR has designed a congress specialising in Self-consumption and Distributed Generation, maintaining its DNA of networking-oriented congresses, where the most relevant players in the sector will be present to discuss the main topics of interest to the industry.

The advantages of clean energy are convincing more and more consumers. Spain already has more than 298,000 homes and more than 54,000 companies with self-consumption installations, which generate the equivalent of 1.8% of the national electricity demand.

According to data from Appa Renovables' annual report on photovoltaic self-consumption, 2,649 MW of new photovoltaic capacity will be installed in Spain in 2022 in self-consumption facilities. This figure represents an increase of 120% compared to 2021, when 1,203 MW were commissioned. In terms of sectoral distribution, 61% of this capacity has been installed in the industrial sector and the remaining 39% in households. In total, self-consumption installations generated 4,564 GWh in Spain. This figure includes instantaneous self-consumed energy, as well as surpluses used by the electricity system.

The approval of Royal Decree Law 244/2019, which regulates the activity of self-consumption of electricity, puts an end to self-consumption charges, simplifies the modalities and allows collective self-supply. In addition, in June 2021, the Spanish government approved a royal decree to grant 660 million euros in aid, with the aim of boosting renewable energy self-consumption. The Self-consumption Roadmap, which includes both photovoltaic and wind energy, sets objectives to evaluate the development and strengthen the monitoring of the activity and, in addition, contains 37 facilitating measures to achieve them. All this makes self-consumption more attractive than ever.
